3/20/2024 (Permalink)
As spring arrives in Florida, it brings the potential for water damage to homes and businesses. With increased rainfall and storms, it's crucial to take proactive steps to protect your property. Here are some quick tips:
1. Roof Check: Inspect your roof for damage or missing shingles. Prompt repairs can prevent water from seeping in during heavy rains.
2. Gutters and Downspouts: Keep gutters and downspouts clear of debris to ensure proper drainage and prevent water damage to walls and foundations.
3. Monitor Humidity: Florida's warm climate can lead to indoor humidity, promoting mold growth. Use dehumidifiers and keep indoor humidity levels below 60%.
4. Plumbing Inspection: Check for leaks in faucets, toilets, and under sinks. Repair any leaks promptly to prevent water damage and mold growth.
5. Landscaping Maintenance: Trim trees and shrubs to prevent branches from falling on the roof during storms. Ensure proper grading to prevent water pooling near the foundation.
Stay proactive and implement these measures to minimize the risk of spring water damage. Remember, SERVPRO is here to help if water damage occurs. Our experts are available 24/7 to mitigate damage and restore your property. Let us be your partner in water damage prevention and restoration this spring!
Why should I not take care of water damage myself?
3/8/2023 (Permalink)
Water damage left too long and it resulted in have to remove all the dry way down to the bare studs-- you can even see rust on the stud!!
Even a small amount of water can cause a lot of damage to a property and if corrective action isn’t taken right away, the homeowner may bear the cost of the clean-up. This is because most homeowner insurance policies will state that it is the homeowner’s responsibility to try to limit further damage to their home after a water loss. If they don’t do anything, the insurance company could deny the claim.
On top of this, the longer there is water in a home, the greater the possibility of the home experiencing secondary damage. This is when materials that are wet sustain additional damage that then becomes more expensive to fix. A good example is when wet drywall is not properly dried and then becomes moldy. Another one is when you have a wet room that is not addressed and the high humidity levels cause damage to another room that wasn’t originally affected.
Secondary damage is always more expensive to mitigate than the original water damage but can be avoided is corrective action is taken right away!
At SERVPRO of Central Brevard, we have successfully mitigated water damages in hundreds of homes in our over 19 years of service to the Space Coast!!
Once you see our green trucks pull into your driveway or parking lot, you can rest assured you’re in capable hands. Drying Structural Areas of Your Cocoa Home after Water Damage
7/26/2022 (Permalink)
SERVPRO provides advanced equipment for water damage mitigation in Cocoa. "Like it never even happened."
SERVPRO Follows Protocols to Facilitate Water Mitigation in Cocoa
Water becomes a menace when it spreads to unintended areas of a Cocoa property. Structural materials such as frames, studs, walls, and ceiling panels are particularly vulnerable to moisture exposure. Luckily, drying procedures can help prevent or reverse severe water damage. Drying structural areas to combat water damage requires combining several strategies, including demolition, manipulating airflow, and dehumidification.
When an incident at your Cocoa home leaves water damage, the impact can be selective, affecting contents such as furniture, or it can be restricted to structural areas such as walls, floors, or ceilings. The source of the leak plays a significant role in determining what is affected. Unlike contents that you can easily move to facilitate drying, wet structural materials are rigidly attached to the building. SERVPRO provides the expertise and technological resources that ease water restoration.
Removing moisture from structural materials occurs in different states, including liquid and vapor. Moisture has to move from the core of the material towards the surface, where it can escape into the air through evaporation. Although evaporation happens naturally, the standard rate is too slow, especially in concealed areas, so it is essential to find a way to fast-track it.
Ways to boost evaporation
- Improving airflow
- Humidity control
- Temperature control
If the air circulating over wet surfaces is constantly moving, it acts as a sweep moving the moisture escaping from the wet materials away, thus speeding up the drying process. Our SERVPRO crews set up several air movers to create a constant air stream over a damp surface. The air moving around the wet materials should have minimal humidity levels for sustained evaporation and faster drying. If deemed necessary, our technicians include dehumidifiers within the set-up of drying equipment. Temperature control complements the drying efforts by improving the capacity of air to hold moisture.
Reaching Wet Structural Materials
Structural materials such as drywall, floorboards, and ceiling panels are readily accessible, making it easy to execute the drying processes. However, the elements hidden within ceiling spaces, subfloors, and wall spaces are not readily accessible, so extra steps are necessary to facilitate drying. Our SERVPRO IICRC-certified technicians can punch vent holes or make flood cuts to create the required access to circulate dry air close to the wet materials. Vent holes are small openings, usually less than an inch in diameter, drilled through a wall to create access for circulating air inside the wall. Our technicians hook special wall ventilators through the holes to facilitate positive or negative air pressure into the cavity. We can rig various InjectiDry devices to optimize the drying time and result.
In some cases, materials may be readily accessible but have vapor barriers that impede drying. A vapor barrier is a material that does not let moisture through, or if it does, the rate is very slow. For example, wall surfaces coated in gloss paint or wallpaper. Defeating the vapor barrier is essential before drying can be successful. Our SERVPRO technicians use different workarounds against the moisture barriers, including modifying or removing the material. We can use a perforation roller to create tiny holes allowing faster moisture release. Stripping the surface, especially if the barrier is wallpaper is also helpful.
Other common vapor barriers:
- Felt paper under hardwood floors
- 4-mil polyethylene sheet under drywall
- Semi-gloss paint

Plumbing leaks are frequent sources of water damage. SERVPRO is always on call for water removal, cleanup, and remediation.
Fast Water Removal Mitigates Water Damage in Cocoa – Call SERVPRO
Plumbing leaks in your Cocoa home can distribute hundreds of gallons of water inside your home in hours. The water fills cavities inside walls and spreads across tiles and carpeted floors to other areas and rooms. The water may seep into the ceiling of the space below and onto adjacent floors. The faster you remove the water, reduces damage before various porous materials absorb water.
SERVPRO specializes in responding to water removal requests in Cocoa and the surrounding area in less than four hours from your call 24/7. We know our customers are stressed and worried about all the water and the damage it may cause. We also know that a quick response mitigates the total damage caused by the water.
Water is easily absorbed by many porous products such as pressed wood products in cupboards, carpets, under padding, and even hardwood flooring material. Fabrics in furniture and pillows absorb water and may leach some of the colors onto adjacent materials. Ceiling tiles and drywall absorb moisture, swell and lose structural integrity.
Once you have turned off the main water supply and called SERVPRO, begin removing fabric items out of harm's way and start mopping up as much water as possible. Be careful of slips and falls, and avoid using any electrical items until everything is dry.
Our fast response focuses on using high-capacity water extractors to remove water from floors and cavities, air movers to drive dry air over high moisture areas to absorb moisture, and high capacity dehumidifiers to reduce the humidity to normal levels. Our water removal experts can mitigate the damage from water leaks and save many of your possessions.

SERVPRO Helps Flush Away Your Troubles After Water Damage Merritt Island
4/1/2022 (Permalink)
Toilet leaks or overflows can unexpectedly affect your home. Contact SERVPRO for effective cleanup, deodorization and remediation services.
Water Damage Restoration for Your Merritt Island Home
In a world without any issues, your toilet in your Merritt Island home would never leak. However, it is not a perfect world, and toilets do leak sometimes. When they do, it is not pretty, and it can cost you quite a bit in damages. In case of an emergency like this, you need to know what to do and how to react.
Water damage to your Merritt Island home from an overflowing toilet can be a lot worse than you might think. Depending on how much water lets loose in your home and how long it sits, you can be looking at damage to your flooring and the ceiling underneath if it is an upstairs bathroom. You need the assistance of a professional remediation company right away, which is why SERVPRO is always standing by.
Hopefully, you have at least been able to stop the flow of water before we arrive. Turning the water off at its source should be your first step. You can usually find the knob on the wall near the base of the toilet, under the tank.
If your toilet isn’t overflowing due to a blockage, it might be that you need to adjust the float. Raise or lower it until reaching the right bowl fill level. If your toilet is clogged, do not flush it again, as this can create more water to overflow. After stopping the flow of water, you can try using a plunger to loosen the clog.
Once removing standing water, SERVPRO staff use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to check for damage done to flooring, subflooring, and the ceiling underneath. Finding all hidden moisture helps us to thoroughly dry and restore the damage done to your home by the overflow. We do not want to leave any behind, as that can continue to create additional damage, such as mold growth and weakening of your structure.
SERVPRO of Central Brevard understands that a water damage emergency of any kind in your home in Sharpes, Rockledge, or Cocoa Beach needs immediate attention. Get in touch with us right away by dialing (321) 638-4947 so we can prevent further issues caused by the water now sitting in your home.
How Moisture Measurement And Assessment Play A Big Role In Dealing With Your Water Damaged Home In Cocoa

Experience and training go quite a way toward preparing restoration specialists who respond to a water crisis at your Cocoa home.
The Importance Of Moisture Measurement And Assessment When Dealing With Water Damage In Cocoa
Experience and training go quite a way toward preparing restoration specialists who respond to a water crisis at your Cocoa home. Customers experience relief at the sights of our team of high-quality technicians arriving and getting to work. What the layperson might not see is how much our skilled restorers rely upon the right equipment for the job. We invest in cutting-edge devices to inform our crews about vital moisture levels for the best outcome.
A water damage scenario in Cocoa significantly raises the anxiety quotient for a homeowner. One of the strategies we use to assess the gravity of the problem is to use moisture sensors when first arriving at a job. Assigning numbers to an unexpected and frightening situation helps the homeowner understand the extent of the damage and gives us a guide to project the tasks needed and the time the work might take.
SERVPRO technicians complete comprehensive IICRC training in the use of moisture meters and scanners to plan and monitor the progress of water damage restoration. Sensors assist us in identifying and locating the areas and materials damaged by a water catastrophe. Simply viewing structures and possessions is not enough to determine the presence and severity of water damage. Hidden moisture and trapped water caches would be nearly impossible to find without these tools.
A broad range of moisture meters exist, and SERVPRO project managers decide which to use and how often to sample the levels during the project. Non-penetrating meters measure the amount of moisture between a pair of sensors without risk of damage to materials. They deliver quick results and are useful for comparing moisture readings between spaces in the water-damaged area and undamaged areas in the home.
Penetrating meters, including hydro sensors, use an insert or prong to clarify how much moisture moved into and under the surface of affected building materials. SERVPRO technicians use these types of meters to determine water migration patterns and find hidden quantities of water.
After water removal, SERVPRO technicians might use thermo-hygrometers to assess the likelihood of efficient drying given the current environment surrounding the water-damaged materials. Temperature and relative humidity are assessed and monitored as structural drying techniques proceed. The readings provide help with adaptation to air movement, heat application, and the effectiveness of the dehumidifiers available to manage the water vapor produced with air movers and increased temperatures.
SERVPRO of Central Brevard invests in industry-leading equipment and in the training of our water damage restoration technicians to improve project outcomes. Call us at (321) 638-4947 to get a team of highly-qualified professionals on the job.

Learn About Water Restoration Terminology to Better Understand SERVPRO Interventions in Your Cocoa Home
When you come home to find a burst pipe or appliance hose or pump malfunction has flooded areas of your Cocoa residence, water damage mitigation and other phrases used in the moisture restoration business can be confusing. Reduce your stress by learning what we accomplish during water damage restoration, which includes:
- Water damage mitigation
- Water damage remediation
- Water damage repairs
What Constitutes Water Damage Mitigation?
When the SERVPRO crew arrives at your water damaged Cocoa dwelling, assessment of the situation precedes emergency services. Although water damage recovery would seem to follow the same schedule in every case, mitigation interventions vary according to the unique circumstances presented. Mitigation efforts aim to halt the current water damage, interfering with moisture spread to additional materials. Examples are many and may include:
- Shutting off/down water sources at the primary or ancillary line valves
- Pumping and water extraction of standing liquids with truck-mounted or portable units
- Light wanding from dry areas of carpeting toward the damp to stop the migration of the fluids as well as weighted extraction to dry carpet in place
- Tear out of carpet padding or wet insulation to prevent water transfer to dry materials
How Does Water Remediation Differ from Mitigation?
The water damage restoration process is a continuum, with mitigation steps as initial strategies. Remediation moves past halting the water incursion and damage, switching to efforts that reverse, as much as possible, the harm. Remediation aligns with tasks such as determining drying goals and preparing efficient air mover, heater, and dehumidification configurations. These remediations accelerate evaporation from saturated porous materials, heading toward SERVPRO’s central goal of making it “Like it never even happened.” Other remediations encompass but are not limited to:
- Cleaning and disinfecting soiled surfaces
- Evaluating damp materials for potential mold growth and recommending next steps
- Deciding if some water-damaged materials are unrestorable
What About Water Damage Repairs?
Where materials cannot sustain additional function or be brought back to previous appearances, SERVPRO assists Cocoa residents in arranging for necessary repairs, refinishing, and even reconstruction. We work with your insurance carrier to document your claims, so your out-of-pocket expenses are limited.

Our Water Cleanup Team in Cocoa Leaves Properties Protected
At SERVPRO, we want to leave our customer's properties on Cocoa not only restored to pre-damage condition but also protected from secondary damages that might otherwise develop. When water finds its way to areas of your home where it can harm structures and contents, we know to worry about other issues, also.
Houses can become saturated with moisture that activates dormant microbes, but our water cleanup services on Cocoa keep this from becoming a problem. When a SERVPRO team works on your home, you can trust our IICRC training. We understand the different outcomes that lost water makes possible, and we guard against these.
Microbes exist in profuse numbers inside the cleanest of houses, with only the presence or absence of water making the difference between a residence infested with active mold or one without any signs of microbial growth. Cleaning out and eliminating items that hold water and keep your home damp helps eliminate the risk to your property. Air drying many items outdoors on sunny days can safely reduce the amount of moisture to within reasonable limits in addition to killing microbes present on the surface.
Water Damage Restoration
When conditions within your house become murky and seem filthy, SERVPRO's technicians can still restore things "Like it never even happened." We have the latest technological advancements among our equipment, but we continue to rely on manual labor and the bucket-and-shovel method in removing the worst messes from your home. No job is too small, nor too big for SERVPRO, and our training gives us the skills we need to restore houses suffering from the worst messes possible.

Water damage cleanup for Cocoa homes is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from SERVPRO restoration technicians. Technicians are trained to perform water mitigation and structural restoration services, like drywall repair and floor tile cleaning, per restoration industry best practices.

After technicians extract moisture from surfaces, SERVPRO’s axial and centrifugal air movers can be positioned to address water damage in flooring and ceiling cavities. These air movement tools are typically placed at 45- to 90-degree angles to pull moist air out of these materials for dehumidifiers to collect.
Dehumidifier setup needs can be broken down into four main classes of water damage:
- Class 1 water damage involves minimal moisture exposure for structural materials.
- Class 2 scenarios include less than 24 inches of water wicked up walls and a moderate amount of porous materials exposed to moisture.
- Class 3 water damage requires extensive cleanup, especially when water comes from overhead.

2/1/2021 (Permalink)
Just a small water leak can cause a lot of damage, including mold. Inspect your home often for signs of leaks and mold growth.
Water Mitigation Reduces the Likelihood of Permanent Harm at your Merritt Island Home
A leak in your property can affect indoor air quality, encourage the growth of mold or bacteria, and affect a building assembly's structural integrity. Early intervention into a water incident can help to prevent permanent losses.

- We take care of sensitive materials and fabrics with specific leather, organic textiles, and upholstery protocols.

Water damage situations in your home need to be handled properly. Contact SERVPRO 24/7 for professional remediation services.
The Flooding in Your Cape Canaveral Residence May Seem Minor but Hidden Water Can Cause Secondary Damage the Longer You Wait
When a washer hose comes loose, or a hole in the hose develops, gallons of water can come pouring out very quickly. If you are lucky enough to catch it quickly and shut off the water, the damage may seem minimal. But there can be hidden damage in your Cape Canaveral home you know nothing about or secondary damage that can turn up days later.
My Washer Was On the Second Floor – Where Did the Water Go?
In this situation, the washing machine was located on the second floor of the townhouse. The leak seemed to cause damage to the hallway and the ceiling below. When this happens, water restoration in your Cape Canaveral home should be handled by professionals who know how to locate hidden moisture.
If the water is still flowing, it can be seen seeping into the floorboards, heading under the washer and into the seams along the walls. Moisture moves in these ways:
- Air movement
- Liquid flow
- Capillary suction
- Vapor diffusion
Water can cause further damage as it moves beyond the initially impacted area.
Professional Water Mitigation
Stopping the moisture movement is not always easy. SERVPRO technicians understand the action taking place and know how to provide proper water mitigation. They also know the secondary damage that can happen when moisture is not removed rapidly. The crew employs various water restoration methods, including:
- Water extraction – pumps, rovers, and wands can be used.
- Handling wet material – removing it, making flood cuts, and more.
- Drying – industrial air movers and dehumidifiers get the job done.
- Restoration – cleaning, repairing and restoring structural elements and content.
It is never wise to wait when dealing with water intrusion. The secondary damage that can occur, such as mold, can lead to worse problems. When you work with an experienced team like SERVPRO, the process goes as smoothly as possible. Contact SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638 - 4947 for quality water restoration service.

When Does Water-Damaged Flooring Need Replaced in My Cocoa Home?
8/14/2020 (Permalink)
Flooding can quickly damage the flooring in your home. Contact SERVPRO for water removal and remediation efforts.
The saturation and deterioration of flooring materials can happen quickly in a water disaster, often leading to a need for removal and replacement.
After water damage affects your Cocoa home, certain materials are more impacted than others. Flooring is normally one of the most heavily damaged areas of a property, precisely because this is where water pools and begins to saturate into these exposed elements. Carpeting and wood plank flooring are the most susceptible and sensitive to this absorption and subsequent damage. Identifying how severely impacted these materials have become can show our restorers what actions must get taken to return the property to preloss condition.
Regarding water damage repair for Cocoa homes and condos, we have in-house contractors and experienced technicians to respond to both sides of the restoration and recovery necessary after disasters. When flooring becomes compromised by saturation and overexposure, our contractors can remove the portions of this surface layer that require discarding to dry the subflooring underneath more efficiently. After thorough drying of the property, these same contractors can reinstall removed flooring material to make it “Like it never even happened.”
Is It Possible to Preserve Damaged Surface Materials?
There is a possibility of protecting and preserving damaged flooring materials before the need for controlled demolition arises. There is a finite window where restoration is possible with extraction tools and drying equipment. This is especially true for carpeted floors that have not yet absorbed enough standing water on the surface to impact the subflooring under the padding. Extraction and drying tools to help in this effort include:
- Carpet Wands
- Weighted Extraction Devices
- Floor Drying Mats
Water damage can have immediate effects on your home’s flooring materials from the onset of the disaster. Our SERVPRO of Central Brevard technicians and contractors can work together to return your property to its original condition. Give us a call today at (321) 638-4947.

How Do Professionals Repair Water Damage to Floors in Cocoa?

SERVPRO Technicians Pair Water Damage Repair Strategies with the Different Flooring Materials Found in Cocoa Residences.
It is the nature of fluids to flow to the lowest level open to them, so the floors in your Cocoa home require thorough inspection and special attention after a water loss. There is no overt “competition” among the various structural components in your home in terms of the most significant water damage. Still, floors are crucial to every function and the structural integrity of your dwelling. Our managers and technicians are trained through coursework and hands-on experience developed by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). Our understanding of the different strategies and their applications needed to repair various types of flooring is robust.
What Can I Expect the Prognosis to Be for Wet Laminate Flooring?
Successful water damage repair for your Cocoa laminated floors is not possible in many cases. This engineered-type flooring might resemble a more durable material like hardwood or stone, but it is a multi-layer product made of:
- A foundation layer of melamine backer.
- An intermediate layer of medium or high-density fiberboard (MDF or HDF) -- softwood fibers mixed with wax and resin, formed into strips or panels using heat and pressure.
- Visual layer -- a high-resolution image of wood or other material the flooring replicates.
- Topcoat -- resin and cellulose, sometimes textured the match the grain or pattern of the visual.
Occasional spills quickly removed are not a problem with this type of flooring. When the materials become soaked, however, the layers peel apart, and this delamination ruins the floor. Removal and replacement are the norm.
What Approaches Are Used to Repair Water Damage to Hard Flooring?
SERVPRO inspects the many spaces in your home, looking at each floor’s material to determine what interventions are most appropriate to mitigate and repair any harm done by water. Concrete floors, with and without overlying tiles, present different challenges than ceramic tiles installed over a wood-product subfloor.
What Are the Concerns with Concrete Floors?
Concrete floors are porous but generally hold up well when water removal and structural drying completes. Complications are common but usually minor, but include:
- Paint on concrete can dislodge and need repainting -- lead paint issues need ruling out or management by a certified contractor.
- White, chalky residues can rise to the surface as calcium is in the concrete mix -- cleaning resolves.
What Changes if Asphalt or Vinyl Tiles Cover the Concrete?
Resilient tiles applied over concrete provide some cushioning (resilience) and decorative effect but can make water damage repair more involved. (See above for laminate flooring installed over concrete.)
- Asphalt tiles weather the damage well in most cases, but can exude a whitening from glues or the underlying floor, similar to an unadorned concrete floor -- cleanup is usually straightforward.
- Vinyl tiles loosen more easily, especially if the water moved over the surface or stood long enough to begin dissolving adhesives -- removal and replacement is the most common repair.
How Are Ceramic Floors Affected and What Is the Fix if Damaged?
It might come as a shock that ceramic floors are not always impervious to water damage. After all, they are installed in spaces designed to withstand regular water incursions, such as bathrooms, spas, and kitchens. Unfortunately, sometimes water does intrude due to:
- Cracks in the grout.
- Dried out or improperly applied caulking.
- Cracks in a tile due to blunt force damage.
When water percolates through a crack or crevice, it saturates the subfloor, causing swelling and distortion. Tiles can dislodge, odors can develop, and mold can take hold. Close inspection should reveal the areas of the incursion. Water removal and structural drying repairs the situation, although we might need to:
- Remove some tiles to provide access for water extraction and air movement.
- Dry from below, if possible.
- Drill holes to permit suction and aid in circulating warm, dry air before replacing tiles and regrouting and sealing.
Can Hardwood Floors Be Repaired Successfully After Water Damage?
Hardwood floors are more durable than commonly thought, especially if professionals remove the water involved fast. They also must retain appropriate moisture content, around 10 percent nationwide, although there are slight regional variants. Any more moisture, especially water that moved into the subfloor, present for an extended period, can distort the planks or strips:
- Cupping -- when water held in the subfloor wicks up and the edges of each plank or strip swell and push up.
- Crowning -- when the swelling concentrates in the center of the board, often a result of overdrying.
- Buckling -- when the damage is severe enough to cause the joints in a board line to break apart, and the hardwood pulls up the fasteners.
Professionals can reverse slight warping if swift and efficient water removal followed by drying occurs. Special floor mats connected to truck-mounted extractors are useful in pulling water from several layers. Air movers and dehumidifiers hasten to dry to appropriate levels.

What Are the Benefits of Hiring a Professional Water Restoration Company for a Slow Leak in Cocoa?

The professionals at SERVPRO stand ready 24/7 to help locate, mitigate, and remediate residential water damage.
When Significant Losses Accumulate Over Time SERVPRO Locates and Remediates All Aspects of Water Damage for Cocoa Homeowners
Long gone are the days when the majority of pipes and fittings comprising household plumbing were visible and easily accessible. Conventional housing design and construction instead bury utilities, including supply lines and waste, drains, under cabinets, between walls, and under floors. A tiny crack or loose connection can drip and seep for days, weeks, or longer before you notice any harm.
What Are Signs of Hidden Water Damage?
Deep inside the walls of your Cocoa home, water damage might be brewing. Since it is non-visible, how are you supposed to notice and get the help needed to prevent permanent harm to the structure and contents? Here are some signals that water is escaping silently, exposing your property to the risk of structural deterioration and secondary damage like mold growth:
• Unexpectedly high water bills
• Unpleasant or musty smells in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry areas or adjacent rooms
• Blistering paint or peeling wallpaper
• Stains or bulges on walls or ceilings
• Puddles of water near cabinets or baseboards
If a Plumber Fixes the Leak Why Do I Need Professional Restoration?
Repairing and replacing malfunctioning plumbing is a crucial phase, but any water that lingers destroys building materials and encourages mold growth unless addressed. SERVPRO crews train in water extraction and structural drying during the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) courses. We also learn how to use sensitive moisture detection and measurement devices to trace water migration within the building cavities of your home. Gathering moisture data and then using that information for water removal and reduction of the moisture content of soaked building materials are vital tasks necessary to return your home to its preloss condition.
The professionals at SERVPRO of Central Brevard stand ready 24/7 to help locate, mitigate, and remediate residential water damage. Why wait when you can schedule an assessment by calling (321) 638-4947 today?

Water Removal Cocoa – Saving Kitchen Cabinets
Water leaks can occur at any time in the kitchen, inside walls, the laundry room, and bathrooms. Sometimes it is an overflowing sink or bathtub, while in many situations, it is a defective joint somewhere in the plumbing system. The water pressure forces the joint apart, and hundreds of gallons of water pour out. Kitchen cabinets and granite countertops can present unique challenges.
SERVPRO provides water removal services in Cocoa and surrounding areas, responding any time of the day or night, usually within 4 hours of receiving a call for assistance. Our objective is to remove all of the water and moisture, to prevent the growth of mold infestations.
Saving Kitchen Cabinets and Granite Countertops
The homeowner wants everything to be as good as new, while the insurance company wants to honor the insurance commitment while managing the overall costs. SERVPRO has lots of experience in these water damage situations and has perfected methodologies to meet both objectives.
Water can seep under cabinets, making it necessary to gain access to cavities under the cabinets to remove moisture. In some cases, we drill holes, inconspicuously, to remove water and blow dry air into the cavity to absorb the moisture. Excessive water and dampness may require more significant action.
In these situations, SERVPRO removes all of the doors to the cabinets, the countertop, and the cabinet structure. There are many countertops utilizing granite and other types of stone, which are expensive and not easy to remove. In these cases, the entire cabinet and countertop may be raised several inches to provide access to the floor area underneath.
Once everything has been dried, the cabinets and countertop are lowered and reattached to the floor. We can reinstall the original cabinets along with the countertop and the doors. This approach significantly reduces the cost to the insurance company and decreases the time needed to return the home to the client with everything dried and repaired, "Like it never even happened."

Water Removal in Your Merritt Island Home

Don't let a leaking pipe wreak havoc in your Merritt Island home. Call the experts, We can help!
Quality Solutions for Water Damage Caused by Leaking Pipe In Merritt Island Home
Having a water leak in your home is never pleasant, but it is especially unpleasant if you were away while a pipe leaked into your kitchen. Walking into your home and seeing standing water is not what anyone wants to see. After you turn off the water main and ensure that no more water is coming out of the pipe, it is essential to quickly remove the excess water from your home to mitigate further damages such as mold infestations or buckled flooring.
Water removal in Merritt Island can be challenging, so you should have the water extracted promptly and effectively. As the homeowner, it is helpful to sop up as much water as possible to stop the moisture from permeating into the tile grout and causing further damage. Having professionals come in to finish the job helps to ensure no further damage to your home.
SERVPRO restoration specialists use portable extractor equipment to suck up excess water. Portable extractors typically have a long hose that fits into every corner of your kitchen. After several extractions pass, technicians continue the drying process by using axial and centrifugal air movers to enhance evaporation at the surface level to shorten drying time.
As the water on the surface of your kitchen evaporates, the air right about the wet flooring is saturated and cooler. Air movers create high-velocity airflow, enhancing evaporation in conjunction with dehumidifiers that replace this cooler, moist layer with warmer, drier air. Air movers take the dry air from the dehumidifiers and move it throughout the impacted space.
By using moisture meters or infrared cameras, technicians can determine that water penetrated through the vapor barriers in your kitchen wall, they may decide to use a structural cavity system. Some systems use vents attached to air movers while others require small drilled holes under cabinets or into walls to insert attached hoses to direct airflow into a wall cavity. Completely restoring wall cavities to preloss condition helps deter dangerous mold growth.

How To Deal With Water Damage in Your Merritt Island Residence
Dealing with a water intrusion problem in your home is inconveniencing. Whether the leak is caused by a burst water main or appliance leak, quick action can prevent secondary damage and keep restoration expenses at a minimum. It is vital to hire SERVPRO franchise professionals to help with the restoration process.
In the aftermath of water damage in your Merritt Island home, you can do several things to ensure efficient water cleanup. If the culprit is a burst pipe, you need to shut off the main water supply valve immediately to make sure no more water enters the house. If the leak is coming from an appliance, you can remove it from its power source, so it stops running. You should also dry off the affected area immediately so that the water does not cause severe damage to your flooring.
If the water leak has affected your carpeted floor, our Water Damage Restoration Technicians (WRTs) can dry it in place while saving the pad. We can use a carpet wand or weighted water extraction device to remove the water. A weighted extractor removes water from carpets and padding effectively because the weight of the rider is combined with the weight of the extractor to pull the water out and force it to the surface. The water is trapped and pulled into the vacuum intake directly.
We can set up air movers around the perimeter of the room to circulate moisture out of wet materials and then use dehumidifiers to remove moisture from the air. Utilizing this technique to dry wet carpets can save you the expense of replacing the carpet and pad and relaying and restretching the carpet.
Using air movers and dehumidifiers properly also eliminate the need to remove baseboards to dry the wall cavities and walls effectively. Therefore, you can save money by not having to reinstall and paint the baseboards. Our SERVPRO team can complete the water removal and drying process efficiently. At the end of the project, our professionals can use thermal imaging cameras to confirm that the affected surfaces and materials are dry.
After a water loss incident in your Cocoa, Cape Canaveral or Cocoa Beach residence, SERVPRO of Central Brevard can help you clean up and dry the affected areas. Contact us at (321) 638-4947. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Save Money On Water Damages In Merritt Island After Hurricane Dorian With These Tips
Hurricane Dorian is already causing some of the worst hurricane water damage to Florida that has happened in years. While the situation might seem catastrophic in your neighborhood, SERVPRO stays prepared to help the community in times of need and maintains enhanced readiness to respond to multiple emergencies at once. However, before we arrive to start removing water and restoring the damage in your home, there are steps that you can do to dry the place out by yourself.
Mop Up Moisture
Mopping up is one of the most effective ways to control water damage in your Merritt Island home after Hurricane Dorian. By removing the water from the area before damage can set in, you might save thousands of dollars and weeks of repair time by avoiding some of the most expensive types of long-term damage. Mops work faster than other products, but anything absorbent can be used to pick up water and take it out of your home. Don't be afraid to use towels, rags, and even old clothing articles in your efforts to remove water. The amount you save from stopping the spread of damage outweighs whatever these items might cost to replace.
Separate Everything
When you leave stuff out to dry, one of the best ways to accelerate the process and fight mold growth is to separate cushions, sheets, and components of everything you can. By placing items separately from one another, you increase the surface area on your belongings that is exposed to the air, allowing more moisture to evaporate in the same amount of time. These actions can accelerate the drying process and save SERVPRO technicians time as they prepare to dry out your home with industrial tools.
Pick Up Your Stuff
One of the most expensive mistakes many homeowners make after a hurricane is leaving their belongings scattered on the floor. While it might seem intimidating to pick up and organize everything scattered around the home, this can help to protect your belongings from further water damage. Items laying on the carpet should be prioritized even furniture should be removed from or elevated away from wet carpets since they retain so much moisture.

SERVPRO Uses State-of-The-Art Equipment to Restore Merritt Island Properties
6/17/2019 (Permalink)
Our team is here for you if water damage strikes your Merritt Island property.
SERVPRO Assists with Water Cleanup in Merritt Island Home
When it comes to water damage, you might think drying the property should happen first. The fact is, our technicians spend time extracting moisture to hasten the drying process, which inhibits loss.
Our SERVPRO location worked on water cleanup in a Merritt Island home, half the rooms in the household received water loss from a kitchen supply line break while the family was away overnight. They put in a call to our location a short time after arriving home. When our technicians arrived, after confirming the water was shut off, we split into two teams to remove room contents to another area of the home and extract water, while the other team scoped the house to identify all areas of water migration.
We did multiple passes over water-saturated areas in the home to pull up as much moisture as possible. The reason that we do extra passes and spend time on the water cleanup step is that it lessens the amount of time needed for drying. The less time building materials and contents are exposed to water - the more of a chance for saving through our proprietary restoration techniques.
Correct setup of the drying equipment is crucial. When we dry a property, we are not using fans to blow air on wet areas in a home. There is a science behind how we position our air movers. We configure them in a way that they blow directly across surfaces, which starts a chain reaction that causes moisture to rise to the surface where it is captured and taken off-site by our dehumidifiers. This cycle rapidly lowers the moisture levels in rooms.
Before drying, we moved the furniture and tables from the affected rooms to an area of the home that did not receive water loss. The subflooring showed no elevated moisture issues, and because the family contacted our SERVPRO location so quickly, the water did not have a chance to wick into sheetrock. Once dry, we cleaned and disinfected the affected surfaces to leave the rooms fresh and clean.
SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638-4947 is ready any time you need us for water cleanup. We have the experience and equipment to make your water loss, "Like it never even happened."

Buckling Under Pressure: What Water Damage Does to Hardwood Floors in Your Rockledge Home
10/24/2018 (Permalink)
Just a little water can damage hardwood floors and cause them to buckle.
Attending to Your Rockledge Property’s Hard Flooring during Water Damage Restoration
Our properties have different types of flooring, and each reacts differently after facing water damage events. After stopping the source of the water, we perform specialty drying, and the method we use depends on the surface in your home or workplace. While water affects almost all types of flooring, wood flooring is the most susceptible, especially when the leak goes unnoticed, or it covers the entire floor. If you live in Rockledge, there is no need to panic since we can work to restore your property to its original condition.
Water damage to your Rockledge property hardwood floors can cause them to cup, buckle, bulge, and make dark spots appear. When compared to softwoods, they hold up water better since they are a bit dense and there are chances of restoring them after the unfortunate event. We have to choose a drying method that can prevent them from permanently warping, cupping, and buckling. Usually, the amount of water on the structure and the time of exposure determine the level of damage. We can use refinishing processes to correct any existing warp or cup. Before performing any refinishing on a hardwood floor, we make sure its moisture content is below 12%.
Things are different when dealing with buildings with veneer hardwood flooring since the finish surface is so thin. Hence, water damage incidents may make the damage irreparable. Also, it the veneer flooring separates from the subfloor, then we may not restore such surface, and a replacement may be necessary. It is also essential to dry the wood as soon as possible to stop possible mold damage.
To speed up the drying process, our SERVPRO technicians use Dehumidifiers to reduce the relative humidity of the area to 30 - 45 %. We then enhance airflow by positioning air movers underneath and on top of the wood floor. If we determine that the floor finish is hindering evaporation, then removing it may be necessary.
SERVPRO of Central Brevard can clean and dry your home using the state-of-the-art equipment to make it just "Like it never even happened." Our emergency services are a phone call away, call us at (321) 638-4947 to benefit!

How Water Removal Services Can Help You Remediate Your Cocoa Beach Property
7/5/2018 (Permalink)
There are common challenges which arise when our SERVPRO technicians are performing water removal services.
Water Removal Services
When crawl spaces in your home are full of water, it can be so annoying, and there is a need to seek water removal services. The standing water may lead to mold growth, and soon or later the structural members may become weak and lead to unwanted losses. If you ever experience that in your Cocoa Beach home, you need professionals to control the water and dry the area.
There are common challenges which arise when our SERVPRO technicians are performing water removal services in Cocoa Beach. Most crawl spaces have low ceilings and accessing them may be difficult, which may force us to do some minor demolitions. If there is no access to electrical power in this area, we might be forced to provide an option since the sump pumps we use to drain the water use electricity when operating. We usually position the pumps at the lowest point of the structure.
If the humidity in the crawl space is already high, we may install dehumidifiers – which can be either desiccant dehumidifiers or refrigerant dehumidifiers - at the site to reduce the amount of moisture in the air. For instance, desiccant dehumidifiers have chemicals that absorb the moisture. Where necessary, we might install ventilation fans to enhance the drying process. To protect other uncontaminated areas of your home, our SERVPRO team can surround the area with a thick plastic layer during the restoration.
Water may make some organic substances to rot and give off odors. Since the odors are coming from some sources, it can be challenging to analyze the various sources and come up with specific methods to neutralize each smell. As a result, our SERVPRO technicians use multiple deodorization techniques to eliminate the odors. We use thermal foggers and Ultra Low Volume (ULV) foggers when dispensing the deodorants.
SERVPRO of Central Brevard can perform stress-free water, fire, storm, and mold damage remediation process in your property. Call us today at (321) 638-4947 to get reliable services from experienced technicians.

Major whole house water damage in Cocoa Florida
7/14/2017 (Permalink)
the living room under where one part of the ceiling caved in- you can see all the white marks on the tile- that is the remains of the ceiling
Over the weekend- there were major thunder storms in the central Florida area including here in Cocoa. SERVPRO of Central Breavard responded to a home who had major water intrustion which came from the incomplete roof which was being replaced-
Only after the rain had stopped and the roofers had tarped were we able to being getting the home dried out. All but one room was affected and plus the electricity had been turned off, so we had to bring in a generator in order for us to run the drying equipment.
We had to box many contents and move some to the dry room while other items were stored in pod.
Unfortunately due to the amount of damage the family will have to be relocated until the water mitigation process can be completed and rebuilding finished.
water damage comes from fire in Melbourne Florida
4/10/2017 (Permalink)
This photo show the dripping water on the kitchen cabinets, that came from the fire fighting efforts.
Some people may not realize that sometimes major water damages come to occur because of a fire and although secondary may be as severe or even more extensive damage.
Take for instance a fire damage in Melbourne, Florida that we are working hard to make "Like it never even happened." The fire did damage to the roof and the insulation, and the soot was all over the house.
However it was the water from the fire suppression, that also caused damage. Now it goes with out saying that the fire needs to be extinguished and water is the best way. Unfortunately what is left behind may be just as bad or worse as a pipe bursting. So the same steps must be used to clean up the water. Extraction, air moving, dehumidification, as well as opening up wall cavities to dry the water you don't see.
This is important so that secondary mold damage does not rear its ugly head in the future!!!
Determine the Category of Water
3/3/2017 (Permalink)
Determine the Category of Water-
It is important to know the class of water before we go out to a job- this helps us know what kinds of equipment to bring as well as be prepared for any safety issues that might come up.
Clean water Category 1
Broken pipe, ice maker, drain overflow
Does not contain waste or contaminants-
Usually everything that was effected can be restored with this category of water-
Gray water Category 2
Washing machine, dishwasher, roof leak
Has some soils and contaminants-
Generally most effected areas can be restored with this class as well except for maybe porous materials.
Black water Category 3
Raw sewage, floods
High degree of waste and contaminants--
With this category of water with very few exceptions, anything effected must be discarded.
3 Ways a clogged gutter can cause water damage to your home!

The main role of a gutter system is to channel water off the roof and away from the home's foundation. A blockage can cause water to pour over the sides of the gutter and pool around the foundation. Over time, the water can cause cracks to form and damage the foundation, potentially resulting in collapse. But even if the foundation doesn't fail, the water can still cause mold growth.
The fascia boards that hold the gutter system are often made of wood. When gutters clog and fill with water, the boards start to deteriorate and rot. If a home has wood siding, clogged gutters can also cause water to overflow out of the gutter system and down the sides of the home.
In colder climates, ice dams can form on the gutters or the lower edge of the roof, causing water to pool and eventually seep into the home. While ice dams can form on homes with clean gutters, clogged gutters prevent water from draining, which increases the chance for ice dams.
