SERVPRO Uses EPA Approved Mold Remediation in Cocoa Homes

Effective mold damage interventions for Cocoa properties are essential when spores encounter water and microbial growth gets out of hand. The use of proven best practices helps preserve and restore structural components and contents affected by rapidly multiplying fungi. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conducted extensive research that resulted in a comprehensive mold remediation protocol applicable to and successful in commercial and residential settings used by professionals specializing in microbial removal and control.

EPA-Guided Mold Clean Up Delivers Consistently Outstanding Results

Remediation strategies designed by the EPA comprise the undisputed industry standard, clarifying why SERVPRO crews responding to Cocoa mold damage confidently rely upon them. Resolving a fungal infestation includes ticking off the specific steps listed in the EPA process to find and safely rid a dwelling of active colonies of mold organisms. Mold damage results only when endemic spores encounter and absorb water, fueling growth on available organic surfaces such as a broad range of common building materials. Inhibiting resurgence is also vital to protect properties from continuous microbial damage and requires an overarching moisture management plan.

Why Is SERVPRO A Good Fit for Mold Damage Removal?

Expertise in water damage restoration and applied structural drying techniques offers Cocoa customers an advantage when choosing a mold remediation partner, which is why SERVPRO ranks highly among property owners struggling with persistently wet areas. Lingering water damage can fuel mold outbreaks if not remediated within 24 to 48 hours. Our Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-trained technicians are experts in finding the sources of water incursions and tracing moisture migration throughout a home’s building materials and fixtures. Techniques and tools employed include:

  • Infrared imaging, which permits comparing temperature fluctuations to pinpoint wet or water-filled spaces behind surfaces
  • Moisture detectors help establish the perimeters of water spread
  • Moisture meters are critical to developing drying goals and monitoring progress by periodic moisture level measurement of wet components contrasted with baseline data from unaffected yet similar building materials
  • Thermo-hydrometers, are capable of recording both temperature, and relative humidity levels as some spores begin multiplying when humidity levels exceed 60 percent

What Are the Other Steps in the EPA Mold Remediation Protocol?

Identifying and testing for the intensity of water damage and persistent moisture helps remediators locate the spaces within your Cocoa home that exhibit conditions supportive of microbial growth and damage. This is the crucial first step in fungal remediation, which is why SERVPRO uses its expertise and takes the time to scope for water and moisture damage. The subsequent phases in the EPA process include:

  • Containing the affected structural components and workspace to prevent the spread, our technicians wrap the area with 1.6 mil polyethylene and use negative pressure air scrubbing technology to filter contaminants.
  • Manually removing the moldy residues with scrapers, brushes, and other abrasive tools -- sometimes adding controlled blasting with media such as soda or dry ice to loosen organisms from porous materials and incapacitate the invasive hyphae that could otherwise encourage mold rebound.
  • Clean up debris and residues with HEPA-filtered vacuums and wipe downs with EPA-registered cleaning products.
  • Treatment of the affected materials and space with EPA-registered antimicrobials to inhibit the growth of spores in the area.

Water damage restoration and moisture management also must be part of the ongoing maintenance of your Cocoa home, which is why SERVPRO advises customers on how to limit water incursions and ensure optimum indoor humidity of 30 to 50 percent. We also offer services to address and resolve any underlying water issues.

Professional understanding of and capability to provide mold damage remediation best practices is why SERVPRO of Central Brevard is a regional restoration leader. Call (321) 360-4932 to conduct a mold damage assessment.

Mold Damage in Your Cape Canaveral Home

Cape Canaveral Mold Remediation By SERVPRO Is a Good Launch Point

Moisture and a Food Source Spells Mold Growth--Call SERVPRO for Remediation

If you notice a musty, moldy smell under your kitchen sink in your Cape Canaveral home, but do not see any visible mold, do not dismiss it. You likely have mold growth underneath or behind the cabinet and inside the drywall. A leaky faucet can help create mold growth, and it is crucial to handle the problem right away before it gets worse by fixing the drip.

Even if you cannot see the mold but can smell it, mold damage and growth can be present in your Cape Canaveral kitchen. Mold thrives in dark and damp environments and continues to grow until the issue is handled. At SERVPRO, our staff is knowledgeable and professionally trained to clean the mold and remediate the problem.

Microscopic organisms and molds can be present virtually anywhere. Along with yeasts and mushrooms, molds are fungi. They are used to break down organic materials and recycle the nutrients. Molds release many tiny cells known as spores, which spread quickly through the air to form new colonies, which is why during remediation, we are careful to contain the affected area to prevent the mold from spreading to unaffected regions of your home.

Mold needs moisture to grow, so that leak under your sink is perfect. Growth can occur when there is moisture from excessive humidity, water damage, condensation, water leaks, water infiltration, or flooding. Since molds grow by digesting organic matter, they slowly destroy anything they are growing on, which is another reason to act fast if you suspect you have mold colonies in your home. New molds can also sometimes grow on older colonies of mold.

SERVPRO techs can find mold growing on surfaces by the visible discoloration and staining that is frequently gray, green, black, or brown, but can also be white and other colors. The musty smell you noticed also makes mold evident in the suspected growth area.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard are experts at finding hidden mold colonies in your home in Rockledge, Viera, or Pineda and cleaning them up. Get in touch with us at (321) 638-4947 as soon as you suspect you have an issue with mold.

Mold Damage Can Affect Personal Belongings and Furnishings in Your Merritt Island Home

5/24/2022 (Permalink)

Sometimes demolition is required for mold remediation. SERVPRO is trained and equipped for the job

SERVPRO Utilizes Many Techniques, Including Pack-Outs for Mold Remediation

When your home on Merritt Island suffers a disaster, your family's personal belongings and the furnishings that make your house a home can suffer, also. SERVPRO technicians know how to restore homes and carry out the necessary steps to repair many types of items.

While your Merritt Island home's interior might require extensive replacement materials to remediate mold damage fully, SERVPRO's employees are trained to restore all possible items instead of replacing them. We choose to operate this way as a company, so our customers' costs remain as low as possible. Disasters take a severe toll on the families affected without additional financial burdens.

Restoring through cleaning creates other benefits, as well. Replacements often require precise but complex matching of materials or the continuously glaring mismatch of replacement materials. While this rarely occurs, replacing more materials would increase the number of times when slightly mismatched items might happen. Cleaning items also can happen at a much faster rate than matching materials and installing them. Removing materials and disposing of them takes time, also, which can keep us occupied at the job site longer than if we merely cleaned the items in question.

Some belongings, such as carpeting and clothing, require special treatment to restore them fully. We have special tools and methods that make this possible to achieve. Some of our work continues at your house while we can more efficiently handle other types of your belongings at our facility. When we box up your things to transport them, we ensure that the use of inventory sheets for each box and barcodes when needed are implemented.

Because mold particles can spread so quickly inside your home, our IICRC trained techs also take precautionary steps to clean the air and ensure water vapor levels are within normal ranges. We use meter readers that detect moisture in both air and materials. Air scrubbers remove dust and microbes from your residence, while dehumidifiers and desiccant machines dry excess water. An antimicrobial spray can often be part of the service.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard knows how to perform cost-effective and efficient mold damage remediation services. We serve the areas around Viera and Sharpes, helping families live in healthy homes again. Contact us by calling our 24-hour services line at (321) 638-4947 any day of the year.

Services SERVPRO Offers Cocoa Households with Mold Damage

4/25/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO gives you access to expertly trained mold remediation specialists that put vast resources and years of experience to work for you.

Why Cocoa Homes Require Procedural Mold Cleanup Services

Mold in a house is a nuisance and a risk since it can destroy structural materials or house contents. Since mold growth relies on naturally available organic materials fueled by moisture, eliminating the problem from your Cocoa home can be a challenge. One way to defeat mold damage is by relying on superior cleaning and drying procedures. Repairing compromised sections of a house also helps.

In every Cocoa home, mold damage takes a different form. Growth can be gradual or aggressive. It might also develop openly or in hidden areas. SERVPRO can help you mount a response that adapts to these unique situations since we have thoroughly trained and IICRC-certified microbial remedial technicians. Sophisticated restoration equipment helps fast-track the processes or improve the outcomes.

Useful Actions Against Mold Include:

  • Removing mold colonies
  • Removing any deteriorated materials
  • Deodorization
  • Refinishing surfaces

The actions you need to take are based on infestation levels and the location of the contamination in your home. If the contamination only affects items or structural surfaces, cleaning to remove the masses of spores and other moldy materials should be sufficient. SERVPRO can facilitate such cleaning using non-moisture-based methods. Strong vacuums or blast cleaners are typical for such tasks.

Safe Demolition to Reach the Mold

Removing moldy structural materials involves some demolition. Removal primarily targets porous materials like insulation, carpets, and drywall. Demolition can facilitate reach if the contamination is hidden behind other materials or allow the actual removal. Safety in a moldy area must be diverse since there are regular risks associated with construction work, such as falling objects and the hazards posed by microbes and fungus. For instance, skin contact or inhalation of such substances can cause health effects.

Essential safety procedures in moldy areas include setting up containment to limit the spread of residues when cutting materials or cleaning surfaces abrasively. Identifying where utility lines like gas and power cables pass is essential to avoid accidentally damaging them or body injury.

Useful Equipment that Improves Safety

  • Manometers to confirm contained areas are airtight
  • Precision cutting tools
  • PPE such as gloves, boots, and respirators

A nicely done mold remediation exercise should involve some finishing steps. Our SERVPRO crews conduct deodorization in the affected areas and refinish any surfaces affected by cleaning demolition procedures. Dry fogging, air scrubbing, and activated oxygen are some of the top methods that help combat any odors left over after mold infestation. Our technicians use a thermal fogging device to vaporize a solvent-based deodorant producing fog or smoke with tiny particles for dry fogging. When a room is saturated with this fog, the deodorizer's particles spread widely and penetrate materials where they pair with odor molecules, neutralizing them.

Particulate matter from mold colonies can remain suspended in the air. Odor or air quality issues are some typical effects of such residues. Our technicians can help cleanse the air within your property using an air scrubber. The device draws in dirty air and captures particles and odor molecules before exhausting the purified air back into the room. We use devices fitted with several filters, including High-Efficiency Particulate Air filters which can capture residues as small as 0.3 microns.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard is committed to delivering positive outcomes when called to remediate mold damage. You can reach us at (321) 638-4947. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Do Mold Infestations in Cocoa Require Fast-Drying Equipment?

2/25/2022 (Permalink)

Let our fast response team at SERVPRO of Central Brevard eliminate your mold damage.

SERVPRO Mold Inspection Services Can Help Cocoa Residents Find the Solution to their Microbial Growth Issue

Restoration services can vary massively from case to case, and remediation for microbial infestation is no different. In some situations, drying equipment usually found in water intrusion or flooding situations may be necessary to reduce infestations. However, there are occasions when mold remediation is a lot more straightforward. The essential step for any homeowner facing a mold issue is to arrange for a professional inspection. SERVPRO technicians are trained to recognize different severities and different strains of infestation in your home so that we can choose the right course correction method. Our technicians help residents with:

  • Mold infestation
  • Mold inspection
  • Mold remediation

The purpose of a mold inspection in your Cocoa home is to determine the method and equipment needed for remediation. One way to check for infestation is to compare affected and unaffected areas. This process can be useful for attic mold or other regions of the home that are infrequently habited. It allows a homeowner to distinguish between dust, dirt, grime, and microbial infestation. A SERVPRO technician conducts visual inspections but also 'meters' the materials. 'Metering' involves using a moisture probe or sensor to test material for signs of moisture. In some cases, a surface may return a dry reading. However, the presence of mold on a surface indicates that it must have been wet at some point. If mold is present but the surface beneath is dry, a chemical treatment may be the best remediation method.

  • Mold and mildew stain remover is a proprietary chemical our technicians use to remediate dry surfaces with microbial growth.
  • We apply the remover directly to the surface while wearing chemical safety gear and let it work for between 24 and 48 hours.
  • A mold and mildew stain remover can often return a moldy surface to its preloss condition if the surface is dry.

For an expert assessment of your microbial growth issue, contact SERVPRO of Central Brevard for a mold inspection at (321) 638-4947.

Mold can quickly grow. We are always on call to restore your home.

Mold Damage Remediation In Cocoa Starts With Establishing The Correct Process

Fungal growth is quite common in places that naturally have high humidity, such as the Cocoa, FL area. If you happen to suffer from a water leak, the extra moisture could create mold damage inside your home. Once a fungus forms, it can spread across your house quickly. Once they mature, fungi give off seed-like spores that can become airborne and travel throughout your structure.

If the issues do not get taken care of promptly, the contamination can spread to previously unaffected places within your building. Whenever you find mold damage inside your Cocoa home, our professional team at SERVPRO can help remediate the initial problem and take measures to prevent spores from spreading. The number one aspect that makes our team successful and puts us above the other restoration companies is our remediation process. We always follow the same overall procedures that have proven to be effective in both mitigating current issues and helping to prevent future problems.

Steps for Mold Damage

The first step our SERVPRO technicians take when remediating fungal issues is to establish containment around the negatively affected area. We always contain the area during work procedures so that spores do not spread outside of the already contaminated area. To establish containment, we seal the area off with plastic and then create negative air pressure within the contained section using an air scrubber. We also can seal all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning or HVAC vents so that your home's central air system does not get contaminated.

Next, we remove all mold damage inside the sealed region. Any porous materials that got affected like carpet get removed. If the fungus has contaminated nonporous surfaces, then we can remove the contamination by scrubbing, sand/soda blasting, or sanding off the affected materials. We then work towards cleaning all of the dust created during the work process and any spores that may have settled within the region. We accomplish this by cleaning the air with an air scrubber and by vacuuming up any dust with a HEPA vacuum.

The final step we take is to dry out the affected area so that spores cannot get reactivated due to excessive moisture. When dealing with any type of fungus-related situation, it is wise to call SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638-4947. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

A Quick Response and Experienced Technicians Make SERVPRO the First Choice in Mold Damage Restoration Among Cocoa Residents

Discovering mold damage in your Cocoa home can be nothing short of a traumatizing experience. Hiring professional mold specialists like SERVPRO as soon as possible can prevent the problem from going out of hand and turning into a full-blown disaster.

SERVPRO techs use a multifaceted approach to tackle mold damage in your Cocoa home. The first goal is to ensure that the mold remains confined to a small structure area by establishing effective containment zones. Once an effective containment is established, the SERVPRO techs must decide the cleaning method used during the mold remediation process.

What are Various Cleaning Methods That SERVPRO Mold Specialists Use During the Remediation Process in Cocoa Homes?

SERVPRO techs follow the IICRC S520 guidelines during the mold remediation in your Cocoa home. The guidelines recommend the following cleaning methods depending on the extent and location of mold damage.

  • Air-based methods

Air-based methods of mold removal include HEPA vacuuming and air washing. During the air washing, SERVPRO techs use a stream of air to blow mold spores and fragments off surfaces. As aerosolization of the spores can happen during air washing, SERVPRO techs use this method only where adequate engineering controls can prevent excessive build-up of contaminants.

  • Liquid-based methods

These methods rely on the water combined with a mechanical cleaning process to dislodge contamination. Some of how SERVPRO techs use these methods include-

  • Immersion cleaning
  • Ultrasonic cleaning
  • Damp-wiping with appropriate detergent
  • Cleaning with non-aqueous cleaning agents
  • Abrasive methods

These methods rely on the use of a medium or material to dislodge contamination. Some of how SERVPRO techs Accomplish this include-

  • Scraping, brushing
  • Sanding
  • Dry ice, soda, and sandblasting

Why SERVPRO for Mold Damage Restoration

Most seek out a way to rid themselves of the growing organism as soon as possible, and this need requires the use of professional remediation services.

More people do not rush to fight off the mold damage in their Merritt Island home because they do not fully understand the process itself. Containment to Prevent the Spread of Mold Damage

SERVPRO professionals get uniquely trained to handle all varieties of mold and fungal growth, along with the most efficient current remediation techniques and practices to expedite the process in your home. This process begins with our initial assessment of the area to be sectioned off. We get to work immediately in setting up a perimeter around the affected area using negative air chambers and negative air chambers and air scrubbers with HEPA filters to neutralize active spores and prevent their spread from the current work area.

While the remediation process is involved and requires much equipment to achieve successfully, these steps do not become complete until the source of the food supply for the mold spores has gotten eliminated as well. A thorough inspection of the entire affected area should lend some clues as to where the moisture and dampness are coming from and give our experienced SERVPRO technicians the ability to repair this damage and prevent future recurrences.

While there is inevitably someone in your life or something you have read on the internet to suggest that mold remediation is a simple project, sometimes it is best left to the professionals. Our SERVPRO of Central Brevard emergency response team can be reached anytime by calling (321) 638-4947.

We love hearing from our customers!

From the office staff to the owner, this company was just simply the best!

Central Brevard residents from Cocoa Beach, Merritt Island and your neighborhood count on the SERVPRO of Central Brevard team to respond quickly to water damage emergencies, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are thrilled when customers appreciate our team’s efforts, including our owners. Recently our commitment to providing great customer service inspired the testimonial below from Cindy F.

"Unbelievable kindness, customer service, and professionalism. This company easily gets a 5/5!
It’s rare when you find a company that cares as much about their clients as they do their bottom line. My dad (almost 92) had a sink that overflowed causing water to flood the carpet. He tried to do what he could with a wet-dry vac, but the damage was bigger than what he could handle on his own. I just can’t say enough about the owner of this company. He came out the same day (when I’m sure he had better things to do) to put in fans, pull up the carpet, dry out the carpet pads and give my Dad (and me) peace of mind. He sent me pictures and kept me informed the whole time. He went back a few days later to put the carpet back down and to take the extra time to put everything back in its original place. This company is not only honest but ethical, professional and fair --they put the customer first. Hopefully we will never have to call again for help, but if we do; I know the first number I will dial. We were completely pleased and would highly recommend them. From the office staff to the owner, this company was just simply the best! Thank you, Cindy F."

Can Mold Grow Through an Entire Cocoa Home?

To Restore Your Home to a Safe Condition after Mold Damage, Call SERVPRO

Cocoa was originally a fishing town, with the first families settling in about 1860. The first maps of Cocoa were created in 1882 with the name “Indian River City”. The land detailed was owned by Captain R.A. Hardee. The name, however, was rejected by the local U.S. Postal Office as too long for a postmark.

Two Interesting Origin Stories

There is some disagreement on how Cocoa got its name. Two of the more popular tales involve the local agriculture and an early business on the river banks.
    •    The first tale states that a town meeting was convened in 1884 to name the community. Suggestions were taken from either geographical features or local products. Captain R.C. May suggested cocoa since it fit the requirements and was short enough for the Post Office. It was approved and sent to Washington D.C. for formal adoption.
    •    Another tale is that sailors on the Indian River when boating past the home of an old woman would shout “Cocoa! Cocoa!” Eventually, she brought them hot cocoa. Interestingly, while the hot cocoa tale is more doubtful, there is no evidence to be found of the 1884 town meeting.

Setbacks and Leaps Forward

Cocoa was eventually incorporated in 1895 while trying to recover from an economic disaster. In the Winter of 1894-95, the ‘Great Freeze’ destroyed the citrus crop for 1895, forcing many people to find new employment elsewhere. The city was still recovering from the 1890 fire that destroyed the business district.

Fortunately, the railroad was coming to Cocoa. The extension of the Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Indian River Railway helped jump-start what was a crashing economy. By the end of 1895, Cocoa was a growing town once again. Growth and development continued through the first decade of the 20th century and the population nearly doubled according to the 1911-1912 Florida State Business Directory.

Cocoa’s population doubled again by 1925 to 1800. Despite the failure of its two banks in the Great Depression, the town continued to grow, with one local source in 1930 showing an increase to 2,200. In the Post-WWII years and the start of the Space Race, Cocoa continued to grow and today has a population of over 18,000.

What is the Best Way to Respond After A Bathtub Overflows, Flooding A Home?

10/27/2020 (Permalink)

Sometimes we use plastic sheeting to create drying chambers.

SERVPRO Uses Regular Water Removal Procedures in Cocoa Homes but Avails Unique Resources to Tackle Any Challenges that Arise

Water intrusion poses many risks in a home, including mold development, rotting, swelling, and other material deterioration types in the structure. However, they do not always happen, mostly when removal occurs early enough. SERVPRO helps Cocoa property owners take only the necessary water removal actions, thus expediting the process and limiting the cost implications that the incident might have.

What should the initial water removal process in Cocoa homes involve?

  • Extracting pooling water
  • Removing moisture trapped behind tiles or wooden floorboards
  • Extraction of moisture from carpets, upholstery, and other porous materials
  • Restoring normal humidity levels

When the water spill in Cocoa originates from an overflowing bathtub, it is easier to stop the source by simply turning off the faucet or opening the drain if it is not clogged. Removal efforts can then shift to extracting the water that reached unwanted sections of your house before you could take remedial action.

How often do bathtubs cause water damage?

It is possible to get distracted by other tasks while running water into your bathtub, leading to overfilling. However, the system has some countermeasures to prevent spillover, leading to damage if installed correctly. For instance, the overflow pipe, which is connected to the wastewater outlet, should eliminate excess water once the water in the tub rises over a certain level if it is not clogged or punctured. Therefore, when you notify our SERVPRO team about the problem at your house, we try to establish whether there might be other issues in the system supplying water to the bathtub that might have caused the problem, including:

  • Leaky supply pipes
  • Faulty faucet gaskets or retaining nuts
  • Problems in the flexible pipe connectors or waste outlet trap

How challenging is the water removal process?

Once the water spills from the bathtub, it can flow to different areas in your house. The extent of such spreading is one of the main aspects of determining how challenging the water removal process in Cocoa might end up being. If the water flows freely for hours before you notice and stop the source, you have more wet areas to dry or large pools of water to extract to restore the house to its preloss state.

Our SERVPRO technicians help ease this by providing adequate resources to match the challenges. For instance, availing a high capacity extractor such as a truck-mounted water extractor provides over 185-inch water lift capacity, which is more efficient than the typical 140-inch lift that portable extractors provide. Such higher capacity applications can help clear pools faster or extract water from saturated carpets or other porous materials.

Is removal easy if minimal water is spilled?

Ideally, after a leak involving a small amount of water, it should be easy to complete removal, restoring the property to its preloss state. However, other issues not related to the water amount might complicate the process:

  • Water can ingress into cavities
  • Semi porous materials might absorb the spilled water
  • The water can heighten humidity levels in the house

Water can easily find a way behind the decorative panel surrounding the bathtub or reach below the bathroom floor tiles. Regular extraction procedures cannot remove such water, yet it might cause severe mold development or a foul odor, among other severe problems. Our SERVPRO technicians use specialized equipment and removal procedures to address these challenges.

Using thermal cameras, we can check the level of water penetration in cavities without tearing down materials. We also use thermos-hygrometers to determine humidity levels in different house sections because of the water leak. Depending on the findings, we choose the best tools to use for successful removal. For the water under the floor tiles, drying mats can help extract it conveniently without removing the tiles.

In cases where porous materials such as wooden floorboards absorb the spilled water, there is a need to dry them to the standard 10% moisture content. Drying requires a sustained evaporation rate. The evaporation rate may also need to be regulated to avoid physical problems such as solid wood panels cracking. Setting up drying chambers is one way to achieve both goals. Our technicians use plastic sheets to create a sectioned off area in the targeted areas. We then use air movers to circulate more air in the chamber, quickening evaporation. Dehumidifiers help extract moisture from the air.

Does Mold Damage Disappear Naturally from Cocoa Homes?

9/2/2020 (Permalink)

If your home is overtaken by mold you need to call the professionals. Call SERVPRO today for remediation assistance.

With a persistently humid climate in southern Florida, Cocoa structures battle continuous mold growth threats.

There are always structures in the right position to get impacted by potential mold and microbial threats from the thousands of homes in Cocoa to the historic Cocoa Village. As challenging and alarming as these situations can be, many have taken immediate steps to secure the experienced remediation services of our SERVPRO of Central Brevard team. Our central location can ensure that the right restoration practices get implemented immediately to protect your home.

Mold damage to Cocoa homes might appear similar, but many underlying factors make each remediation project for our professionals unique. When faced with active colonization in a property, the appropriate approaches ensure that we can do the most to protect the structure and its contents from the spreading organism. The Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians (AMRT) of our SERVPRO team focus on three primary areas when recovering your mold-damaged home:

  • Removal of Colonies – The foundation of remediation services is the removal of mold organisms and fungus where it is found. We can often protect underlying substrates hosting mold through practices like abrasive cleaning and potent detergents and chemical agents.
  • Repairs to the Structure – The presence of mold can be more and more destructive to hosting materials until remediation completes. Our contractors can help with controlled demolition and repairs where necessary.
  • Deodorization – Musty odors are a staple of active colonization, so with the use of deodorization practices and environmental cleaning, we can reduce and ultimately remove these effects.

Is Mold Gone for Good in My Cocoa Home?

With the constant humid climate, the potential for mold almost always exists in southern Florida. Installing permanent fixtures for better ventilation and dehumidification can help to reduce these possibilities immensely.

As a coastal community, mold is hard for all of the area structures to avoid every year. Our SERVPRO of Central Brevard team can help anytime at (321) 638-4947.

Our Technicians Discuss The Most Common Types of Water Damage In Cocoa

“Like it never even happened.”

Most Common Types of Water Damage to Floors in Cocoa Homes

When water damage occurs in a home, the flooring, whether it is tile, laminate, hardwood, or carpet, bears the brunt of it. Fortunately, specialized cleaning methods have the potential to restore floors to their preloss condition.

Scoping water damage in Cocoa homes is one of the first actions SERVPRO techs perform. This preliminary effort ensures that anywhere there is moisture, it gets removed.

Why SERVPRO?
The difference between an okay restoration job and an excellent one lies within the knowledge, experience, and equipment. The certified techs use advanced moisture detection equipment to find, extract, and dry properties quickly, which lessens loss.

Tile
When a water spill occurs on tile flooring, if the seal on the grout is old or damaged, moisture can collect within the subfloor.  Techs can determine how deep the extraction and drying needs to go, through the use of non-penetrating detection equipment. Glue-down tile may delaminate when prolonged exposure to moisture occurs; in these cases, the tiles get removed and inspected for the potential for cleaning and reuse, saving the homeowner the cost of buying new flooring.

Glue-Down Carpet
This floor covering is commonly used on slab substrate and generally does poorly upon exposure to water. This type of flooring usually cannot be reused and requires removal and replacement.

Carpet
If the cleanup efforts begin quickly enough, there is a good chance the carpet may be recoverable and able to dry in place using techniques such as floating. The technicians have weighted extractor heads that work to push the maximum amount of water out of the fibers and expedite the drying phase.

Hardwood Flooring
Most homeowners consider their hardwood flooring an investment in their house, and the good news is, if the boards are hardwood and not a composite, SERVPRO has specialized equipment to assist in the recovery of this type of flooring.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638-4947 is available 24/7 to clean up and restore local properties from water damage and make it, “Like it never even happened.”

Stop Wasting Time and Effectively Remediate Cocoa Beach Mold Damage

1/19/2020 (Permalink)

When leaking windows cause mold damage in your home, call Team SERVPRO to remediate the damage. We are standing by 24/7 for your emergency call.

Removing Mold Colonies from Multiple Cocoa Beach Condos

Recognizing mold threats might not be as straightforward as Cocoa Beach property owners might think. While excessive moisture and humidity can present the appropriate environmental conditions to support the formation of mold colonies, these concerns might exist well before you recognize the problem on the surface. When these threatening scenarios get discovered in a condo, it is rarely just your property alone at risk.

Mold damage to Cocoa Beach condos and residences can appear in many ways. From the colonies supported by organic surfaces like wood framing and drywall to the lingering musty odor that can spread well beyond the problem area, our SERVPRO professionals strive always to have an answer for these outcomes.. A combination of our advanced tools, techniques, and potent products can help to get you back into your condo as quickly as possible.

With shared walls and structural cavities between units, leaks in the water lines or storm damages can ultimately affect multiple properties at once. In as little as 48-72 hours, moist organic surfaces provide a suitable growth point for mold spores and eventual colonization. Removing colonies from these structural cavities can have a positive effect on both condos affected through this shared space.

Regulating airflow around the affected areas of your home can help to more quickly dry out this region and help to clear airborne threats like microbes and spores. With high-end materials that have often gone into the construction of your condominium, our SERVPRO professionals appreciate the importance of restoring materials rather than replacing them. We have sophisticated approaches to clean even delicate materials, such as soda blasting, which can work to eliminate the colonies without damaging the substrate.

Water loss incidents, storm damages, and excessive humidity can all contribute to mold concerns in your condo. No matter how our SERVPRO of Central Brevard team can help, give us a call to make losses “Like it never even happened.” You can reach our team of Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians 24/7 by dialing (321) 638-4947.

We Have Unique Approaches To Drying Your Apartment In Merritt Island

11/6/2019 (Permalink)

The water soaked into the drywall panels and our technicians completed a controlled demolition to remove the hazardously hanging matter.

Drying Out Your Merritt Island Apartment After Flooding

Apartment structures throughout Merritt Island provide a location for dozens of families to live. With the unfortunate likelihood of severe weather events that can threaten the entire coastline in the Brevard region, conditions like flooding must always stay on the minds of residents here. While seemingly hundreds of restoration and reconstruction teams pop up after a crisis, few have the credentials, experience, and years of service to the area that our SERVPRO team does.

No matter how severe flood damage in Merritt Island apartment buildings can become, we have the tools and experience to make it “Like it never even happened.” As is the case with any disaster that affects an apartment complex, multiple units and residents can get pulled into the fallout. Flooding, in particular, has symptoms that migrate quickly from one residence to another, compromising entire lower floors of the structure as outside rising waters find access to the interior of the building.

As crucial of an initial phase as extraction is, the real testament to our experience and qualifications comes during the drying of your property. With many types of materials saturated and damaged by the spread of water loss, the tools and approaches selected for drying out flood damage in your apartment are critical. We have hundreds of air movers, dehumidifiers, and specialty drying tools to ensure that we can quickly deploy the right machines to reach the desired results.

Our SERVPRO team can work with your insurance company as well to offer the most cost-effective recovery in the most efficient manner possible. Because so many ceiling spaces and structural cavities can hold moisture and dampness after a flood loss, we utilize positive pressure systems like our InjectiDry unit to force heated air into these points to expedite drying.

We have many unique and powerful approaches regarding the drying and overall recovery of a flood-damaged apartment. You can count on our SERVPRO of Central Brevard team to help you and your neighbors through this crisis. Give us a call anytime at (321) 638-4947.

How To Handle Flood Damage Situations in Cocoa

10/18/2019 (Permalink)

“Like it never even happened.”

Common Flood Damage Situations in Cocoa and What to do About it

Flood damage and storm loss come in many forms to Florida properties. Because of the unique nature of each property, there is never a "one size fits all" approach to water cleanup.

SERVPRO technicians map out each job site in Cocoa with flood damage. They determine the path of the water and all areas it migrated into.

Why SERVPRO?
It takes both training and equipment to perform the complete cleanup of floodwater. The technicians undergo extensive hands-on scenarios for both everyday and unique water damage situations to learn the best practices during mitigation.

Move Items When Water Enters
At the first sign of a water issue, move upholstered furnishings, area rugs, and wood furnishings away from it. If there is no time, remove heirlooms and items that are personally important to a save place. Avoid contact with groundwater.

Start Cleanup Efforts As Soon As Possible
The less exposure the structure has to excessive moisture, the more restoration potential there is. If the water entering the home is rainwater from a roof leak, that is considered clean water and does not hold hazards if humans come into contact with it. Groundwater, however, needs testing by SERVPRO technicians to determine the presence of chemicals, toxins, or sewage.

Lowest Levels Get Hit Hardest
Homes with crawl spaces require fast action to remove any standing water and lower the excessive humidity, or it sets the house up for further damage and mold issues. SERVPRO technicians have the equipment to remove the water, lower humidity, and apply antimicrobial sealants to inhibit mold growth.

Water Odors After DIY Cleanup Means Moisture Remains
One of the most frequent issues found in homes post-flood damage is a musty odor that remains. This is a heralding sign that those previous efforts left moisture behind. Along with the weakening of building materials, mold infestations may develop.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638-4947 works to turn around flood damage in homes in the local area. Our certified technicians have the knowledge to limit the loss and make it, “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO Wants to Protect the Property of Our Cocoa Neighbors with Some Useful Tips

SERVPRO Says Prevent Water and Fire Damage to Your Cocoa Home with Inspections and Maintenance of Your Large Appliances

Washer and Dryer Maintenance in Cocoa Help Prevent Fire and Water Damage

One of the biggest threats to homeowners when it comes to fire and water damage in Brevard County is a washing machine or dryer breakdown. When a washing machine water supply line breaks, it can release hundreds of gallons of water within an hour.

In many Cocoa area homes, a dryer can become a real fire hazard if lint builds up, not only in the vent duct but the machine itself. SERVPRO recommends to our neighbors to clean the clothes dryer filter after every cycle to allow for free hot air circulation. Typically, the flex line directing the moist hot air to the vent pipe over time becomes clogged with lint. This fibrous material is highly combustible. Our technicians provide a comprehensive service to inspect all the elements to maintain an efficient and safe drying cycle. We can vacuum and use brushes and metal whisks to clean the ductwork of any debris. An inspection to ascertain the exterior port is free of lint, and no nesting materials obstruct the opening are crucial to maintaining free airflow.

In citing some statistics, 2,900 dryer fires are reported each year, causing an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and costing $35 million fire damage restoration claims in the U.S. One third of all clothes dryer fires are a result of failure to properly clean the dryer. Visit this FEMA landing page for more information to keep your family and your property secure from a preventable fire damaging event.

To reduce the chance of water damage to your Cocoa home from internal pressurized water leaks, consider replacing your washing-machine hoses with stainless steel braided hoses every 5-7 years. Also, inspect the fittings and valves for any signs of drips. The flexible drain hose is often overlooked as a source of potential leakage that can pour gallons of category 2 gray water onto the floor and behind the appliances.

SERVPRO can respond rapidly to any water or fire mishap that occurs at your property. Limit the need for our emergency visit and instead contact us to keep your appliances in working order by maintaining the pathways of both water and heated air. Why not have peak efficiency and go green by decreasing energy and landfill usage? Don't become a statistic! Call SERVPRO of Central Brevard at  (321) 638-4947 to schedule an inspection.

The Importance of Professional Mold Remediation For Your Merritt Island Residence

Not This Kind of Spaceship Mold Affects Your Property in Merritt Island. For Fungal Matters, Call SERVPRO

Don't Take Chances with Mold Growth in Merritt Island Properties, Call SERVPRO for Help

There are all kinds of disasters that can happen to your Merritt Island home at a moment's notice. On the other side of this coin, however, some damages can occur slowly over time without drawing much attention. While you might not notice something like fungal growth in its earliest stages, you can begin to see the signs and smells of its presence as it expands and thrives. This problem is not one that you should leave to get worse, as it continues to feed on the organic materials and contents of your home where the colonies are forming, causing significant damage.

When you do find mold damage in your Merritt Island home, it can be overwhelming and leave you with a sense of uncertainty about how to resolve the issue. Finding the right professional restoration team can take a substantial burden off your shoulders and ensure that the job gets completed promptly and correctly. Too many times, homeowners rely on DIY methods that can be found on the internet that are ineffective to removing the entire growing organism, and leave them with a false sense of accomplishment. Before long the mold is back because it was never really removed in the first place.

Our SERVPRO team of IICRC certified mold remediation specialists can assess the full scope of the damage to your home and get to work quickly by isolating the affected area. This process prevents the spread of active mold spores throughout your home while the colony removal and dehumidification efforts are underway. This critical step requires circulating air appliances (such as forced air heating and air conditioning) to get shut down until the restoration process gets completed. Most jobs are finished off with thorough spraying or fogging of an antimicrobial agent to the affected areas.

Why SERVPRO is the Best Choice for Fire Damage Restoration in Your Merritt Island Home

Experiencing a fire in your Merritt Island home can be one of the most unsettling and destructive events you have ever gone through. When a fire does occur, you need the help of professional restoration experts as soon as the fire is out to help you restore and clean your home. There is a full range of services they use to get your home back to the way it was.

Restoring your home in Merritt Island from fire damage is a task that SERVPRO staff can take on for you. We are expertly trained on all procedures and equipment so that we can get the job done in a timely and efficient manner, making it easy to see why SERVPRO is the perfect choice for fire damage restoration.

A fast response is needed to prevent your home from suffering additional damage from acidic smoke and soot that is left behind after a fire. You could also have inclement weather coming inside your house through holes in the roof. That is why after we assess the damage, SERVPRO tech’s priority is to tarp up any openings in your home to protect it until we can get the cleanup and restoration done.

Our first job after this is to clean up all the smoke, soot and dust from the surfaces of your home. After a fire, your property probably looks stained, dark, and charred. It is our job to clean this up and get your home looking like normal again. If there is any water damage done from firefighting efforts, then we take care of that at this stage, too.

We also work to get rid of any lingering odors which are there from the smoke. Even adjacent rooms that were not effected by fire damage need this step of the restoration process since the smoke and soot can travel through walls.

The final part of the process is to remove and dispose of any items or structural elements which are too severely damaged for us to repair. Sometimes, furniture can absorb too much contaminated water, or carpeting can be badly burned. In these cases, it is better to throw these things away and replace them with new items.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard takes special care with your home in Rockledge, Cocoa, or Viera after it is damaged from a fire. Give us a call at (321) 638-4947 as soon as the fire is out so we can help you get back to life as usual.

Why SERVPRO Waits for a Safety Assessment Before Mitigating Fire Damage on Merritt Island

We are here to help make fire & water damage "Like it never even happened."

Steps to Mitigating Fire Damage in Your Merritt Island Home

During the time firefighters are putting out a fire in a Merritt Island home, a huge amount of water gets sprayed into the residence. This water can come in through the roof or walls where ventilation holes were made by firefighters to let the smoke out or through the open doors and windows. Either way, the bulk of this water ends up on the floors. The presence of this water is why SERVPRO waits until a safety assessment by the fire department's inspector.

This report provides us with pertinent information on a customer's Merritt Island property that is crucial for mitigating fire damage. Without it, we would possibly carry out work in areas that require reinforcements while they remained in a dangerously weakened state. The fire department's report gives us information about where we need to place extra support beams. Some of our machines weigh quite a bit and several of these can strain floors.

Other weaknesses can involve floorboards that, because of their age combined with the water and steam, become extremely weak and create possible hazards with any amount of weight. The carpeting might seem intact, but underneath, the support no longer exists. Once dry, many of these weakened boards regain their strength, either entirely or near enough to make them salvageable.

A large part of our SERVPRO team's work is geared toward making your home safe again so your family can occupy it without any concern for their safety. This is a crucial point in making sure your family can move forward and forget the tragedy of the fire. Water plays such a significant role in how your home fares after a disaster, so as we mitigate fire damage, we also mitigate the effects created by the water.

Your walls can also become affected by the water, even if the fire barely harmed them. The interior portion of your wall holds a wooden framework. The boards making up this frame can swell and warp when steam comes into contact with them. Twisting like this can create breaks in now-damp drywall and plaster. However, just like damp floorboards, restoring normal moisture content levels by drying the area out with our desiccant machines can bring these frames back into normal specifications. While affected walls might still need some repairs, the majority of the wall does not.

When you experience water damage SERVPRO can act quick and start the restoring process.

Acting in your Interests after Water Damage in your Rockledge Home is an Investment not a Slogan

A flash flood or plumbing issue can be an exhausting experience for a homeowner, but not an uncommon one. Often, the expense associated with removal pales in significance to the personal damages caused to furniture, precious items or those with sentimental value. Finding a service provider you can rely on to act professionally and honestly should be your number one priority.

As an experienced, local provider we act with your best interests in mind when restoring water damage in Rockledge homes. To "always do what is right by the customer" is not just a slogan to us, it guides us in everything we do. SERVPRO has built a strong local reputation here by offering our community a 24-hour call line and honest, expert advice throughout the process.

Water causes damage in two ways. The first is by saturating your possessions and with it any dust, dirt or grime that it picks up en route. Saturated fabrics, in particular, become weak and can lose their shape or shrink when in contact with water, mainly if the drying process uses excessive temperatures. The second is longer term damage which is the build-up of mold or mildew — microscopic spores that thrive in moist, humid environments like a heated living room.

SERVPRO sets itself apart by being both local service and one that has access to national resources. Items that have been impacted by water damage can be sent to an external cleaning facility. One that houses advanced equipment, like Esporta washing machines and, for valuable items, ultrasonic cleaning technology. We invest in this equipment at great expense because we want to work with a "restore over replace mentality" for our customers.

Our commitment to excellent customer service in every job we do. We can act on your behalf in liaison with your insurance adjuster. IICRC certified SERVPRO technicians are also happy to share their knowledge about preventative measures you can take to avoid repeat circumstance, or limit secondary damage.

As a leading provider of restoration, you can feel confident that we act in your interests. Contact SERVPRO of Central Brevard today at (321) 638-4947.

Rocket Science for Restoring Flood Damage to Your Cape Canaveral Home

11/15/2018 (Permalink)

Call SERVPRO when water invades your home. Our van is packed with trained technicians and equipment to restore you home to its preloss condition.

Heavy Rainfall Can Allow Flooding in Your Cape Canaveral Home

Cape Canaveral residents are not unfamiliar with the strength and speed of storms coming in from the Atlantic Ocean. With so much potential damage that even smaller systems can produce, residents are in a constant state of awareness about natural disasters such as flooding. When torrential rainfall continues over several days, however, it can prove challenging to avoid rising floodwaters entirely.

Flood damages that affect your Cape Canaveral home can spread quickly throughout the lower levels. Responding quickly to the situation can help you to protect some structural elements recently exposed to the floodwaters as well as at-risk contents of your home that can still get protected from removal and individual cleaning efforts.

A reason that our franchise offers 24-hour emergency response for our customers is to provide the most comprehensive care available for you and your property. Whenever disaster strikes, you are only ever a phone call away from the response of our experienced and highly-trained IICRC-certified SERVPRO technicians with advanced technology and equipment to help you protect what matters most.

Choosing the right professional restoration company might boil down to experience for many homeowners. Our technicians undergo extensive training to obtain their IICRC certifications in water restoration and must continue their training to obtain secondary certifications and skills for niches like mitigation, odor removal, and mold remediation. These educational opportunities happen both in-house and through e-learning avenues that challenge each technician to be better.

Our equipment is another reason we are a wise choice to help you overcome the flood damages in your home. Our extraction equipment like truck-mounted pumps in the SERVPRO fleet can pull 300psi for water extraction, making the removal of excess water throughout your home fast.

With the right equipment and education, our SERVPRO of Central Brevard water restoration technicians are a solid choice to help you mitigate your losses during and immediately following a disaster like a flood. Our emergency response team is available 24/7, so give us a call anytime that disaster strikes at (321) 638-4947.
